The new music sites
by Claudia Sonea
The analyst firm Entertainment Media Research has made a survey that shows new changes in the people perception on downloading music. Apparently the social networks are now hip in finding music that you like and the number of people who would illegally download music has increased a lot. 53 percent of people surf the social networks to find music they like and more than 30 percent would actually download or buy the music discovered there. Between 72 and 75 percent of the MySpace and Bebo users said they look on site for music and the thing that they did not liked was that it is hard to download music from the social networking sites. According to John Enser, head of the law firm Olswang, social networking sites could represent a new platform for the music industry if the purchasing of music is made easier. Also there is an alarming number of people that would illegally download music than actually buying it. 22 percent admitted they have barely once paid to download a track, while the same percent have legally downloaded a track in the last six months. It is no surprise that the number of illegal downloads have increased from 36% in 2006 to 43% in 2007. The main concern is now to apply a purchase function to the social networking sites and then wait to see if there will be any improvement and the piracy might drop. People like the concept of free music. They eagerly look for sites that offer music for free than to actually buy it. The truth is that we should buy it in order to support our artist. If we are real fans then we should purchase the music. Otherwise how will they know how good they are or how loved they are. It is just my honest opinion and no advice whatsoever. Surf on and enjoy!
